5-HTP or 5-hydroxytryptophan is a natural compound produced by the body using dietary L-tryptophan. 5-HTP is a vital component in the body with its primary role being in the production of neurotransmitters that claim to regulate appetite, brain activity, concentration and sleep patterns.
5-HTP is primarily taken to aid sleep disorders such as insomnia, sleep apnea and narcolepsy. 5-HTP is a precursor molecule of two essential brain chemicals used to generate that ‘sleepy’ feeling. This brain chemical helps you drift off, sedate the body, set our biological clock, sleep and wake cycles.
Cravings can be the downfall of any healthy eater or dieter. Our appetite is entirely controlled by fluctuating brain chemicals. Eating foods high in carbohydrates can drastically increase certain brain chemicals. This can send our appetite into overdrive. Therefore, you can manage your appetite with 5-HTP.
5-HTP is often taken by people with fibromyalgia, emotional disorders, and sleep disorders.
L-Tryptophan can be converted to 5-HTP within the body. L-tryptopphan is found in foods such a Soy products (soy beans and tofu), Red Meats, Poultry, Fish, Eggs, Oat Bran, Sunflower/Pumpkin seeds, Spirulina, Cheeses and Dark Chocolate.
5-HTP cannot be consumed in typical foods. The only natural source of 5-HTP in its full form is from the Griffonia Simplicifolia plant or through a dietary supplement. We recommend our 5-HTP tablet should be taken in conjunction with a healthy, balanced and varied diet.
5-HTP is the primary active ingredient of the Griffonia simplicifolia plant. Griffonia simplicifolia is a vine plant that best grows on the mountain slopes of Central and West Africa. In these areas of the world, it is used in traditional medicine for a number of diseases. In westernised medicine, it’s well known as a rich source of 5-HTP. The Griffonia simplicifolia produces pods containing seeds that are abundant in the active ingredient 5-HTP. Extracting 5-HTP from this natural source allows us to meet the high levels of quality we aim to provide.

I am pre-menopausal and this helps me with my sleep .
I started taking this when I read it is good for low mood, as recommended my medical herbalist Richard Whelan. I won’t go so far as to say it “cures” depression that would be fool hardy, but I will say its helping me as I taper off my medication under close medical supervision. Doctors might poo poo 5 htp, if its not making money for them and huge pharmaceutical companies it obviously doesn’t work. I’ve been seeing alternative therapy as the alternatives for a while now with good results. As always do check these supplements are safe, and do try to find a sympathetic medical ear or medical herbalists to help you. let you know how it goes. Its not for everyone. xxx
Very good quality products
I wish I’d met this company sooner, they’re very quick and have good quality products.( highly recommended)
I was searching around, and this was by far and away better value than a certain well-known high street chain, or anyone else, come to that. They say you get what you pay for, but I am familiar with this supplement and find no loss in quality (it may actually be better). I received same day dispatch as well, while I am still waiting for dispatch for a supplement I ordered from another company at the same time, a week later…
