Although the Acai Berry (phonetically pronounced ah-sigh-ee) has been cultivated for thousands of years, the fruit has only been used by the Western world since the 1990s. The berry was originally used by tribes in the Amazon jungle to treat various ailments, along with the other known 2,000 to 3,000 rainforest fruits that the natives use for their therapeutic properties. With a long, thin trunk that grows to heights of 35m, it's no wonder that the acai plant belongs to the 'palm' family. The berry hangs from branches that group at the top of the trunk in ribbon-like shapes. Each tree can provide 20kg of fruit per year and farmers do everything they can to ensure maximum production of the Acai Berry as the fruit has been deemed a 'superfood' in recent years.
The Acai Berry is a rich purple fruit which naturally contains anthocyanins, a colouring pigment which possesses antioxidative properties. The fruit contains phytochemicals found in plants which prevent oxidative stress, according to several studies. The berry is often supplemented for its anti-inflammatory properties, being both cardioprotective and neuroprotective. Additionally, the berry is known for its fibre content at 44.2g per 100g, a nutrient that helps with satiety to keep us feeling full for longer.
The Acai Berries in our tablets are sourced from crushed berries to form a powder which is then pressed into our tablets. We recommend taking our Acai Berry tablets in combination with a balanced diet.
